A living room is a good example. In this space you need places for people to sit. It's a basic requirement of the functions of the room. If people have nowhere to sit then it won't be a very social place. A table can also be added either a coffee table which can dominate the center of the room or smaller side tables where guests can rest a beverage or a bag or simply place their hands when reclining.
One of the easiest ways to do this is to take a closer look in the living room. What often happens in the living room is that people start with a large sofa. Once they have that in place they decide that all of the other pieces of furniture need to be large too since the sofa is. Unfortunately often many people think detailed decorated and bulky are the best options to do this.
A room is a concerted whole yet some pieces are more important than others. The larger items that dominate the space will tend to be more prominent and important than smaller decorative items. Think carefully about positioning and arrangement before choosing how to set up the various aspects of the space.
