Size - You want to try and make your sofa tables as close to the same length as your sofa as you can. Something sticking out past the sofa looks tacky. Something too short may cause people to try to put a drink down only to find out there is no table there. Materials - Consider the materials that have gone into the sofa tables you are considering. You don't want tables that are made of easy to scratch or scar materials as these are going to likely get a lot of use. Décor fit - Just as with the sofas you choose it is important to consider the overall décor style of the room before you select tables to go into this space.
Another factor is whether or not you will need to have data outlets for those laptop computers to plug into when network access is needed. Power outlets are also important in this case and should also be included. There are a lot of conference and boardroom table designs that include such outlets.
The way that you position these large scale items will determine not only how the room looks but also how it feels. Think about seating. If couches are all faced towards one another it will lead naturally to social interaction between the people in the room. If on the other hand they are all facing towards a focal point such as a TV it will direct the attention of the space outward. You should consider how you want the room to work and then move these larger pieces into place accordingly.
